With the excitement of the holiday season wrapped up and the cooler temperatures making their way in, January can feel long and dreary. With most of our time spent indoors, especially in the long winter months, it is important for our home to feel like a sanctuary. Our home should be an inviting place that we look forward to retreating to at the end of a long day or staying in on a cold winter weekend. Here are our top 5 design trends for January to help make your home feel more comfortable, serene, and peaceful.

Earth Tones

Incorporating earthy tones and wooden elements into our homes is important as they add warmth and comfort to any space. Adding wood and natural elements allows you to bring the outdoors in. This is especially important during the winter when we cannot spend as much time as we would like outdoors.

Cozy Textiles

Luxurious textiles are perfect for cool winter nights when you just want to curl up on your sofa near the fire. Having soft textiles on a sofa or a bed creates a sense of intimacy and comfort that only your home can provide. These textiles are also a great way to bring in new textures, colours, and patterns, into any room.

Candles

Candles create a warm ambiance in a home and having an abundance will provide a sense of luxury. In addition to ambient lighting, candles are very decorative. They allow you to accessorize and bring life to otherwise dull spaces. In addition to the visual benefits, they provide a different type of sensory experience by allowing the user to burn comforting and relaxing scents, which allows for a deeper connection to the home.

Floral Arrangements

Winter florals are a great way to liven up a space and add elegance. Flowers bring a sense of joy and allow you to add colour to a home. They are ever-changing so the look and feel of the home will constantly change as floral arrangements change. Feel free to have fun with flowers and don’t be afraid to experiment!

Fireplace

Fireplaces are the focal point of any room that has one, whether it is fully functioning or not. A fireplace is a great way to add character to a home. Adding decor to the mantle or candles within is a great way to further emphasize the fireplace.  The comfort and warmth provided by a fireplace on a cold night are unmatched, so we encourage you to take some risks and allow your fireplace to speak for itself.
