Modern Cover

Modern home design has become increasingly popular over the past decade. With older homes requiring full gut renovations, homeowners are opting for drastic changes to their properties by going from traditional homes to a more modern aesthetic for their interior. Builders are also opting for a modern aesthetic for newly built communities that are popping up as that is what buyers are currently drawn towards.

We will look at a few ways that homeowners can achieve a modern home aesthetic for the interior of their homes!

Clean Lines

  • Consider linear elements and clean lines throughout the home.
  • Have clear sightlines and pathways.
  • Clean lines can create a sense of airiness in the space and a good layout can make the space feel more open.

Minimal Decor

  • Try to eliminate clutter and embrace a minimalist lifestyle.
  • Invest in quality decor items to create a sense of luxury.
  • Have fewer decor pieces that are more elevated to create interest and showcase personality, while maintaining minimalism.

Black/Metallic Accents

  • Consider metallic accents throughout the home combined with wood so the interior doesn’t feel too cold and harsh.
  • Metal accents can be incorporated into furniture, lighting, hardware, and stairs.
  • Metal accents create tasteful points of interest.
  • Consider metal accents in combination with glass to create a sense of airiness and let light into the space.

Simple Profiles

  • Stay away from ornate edge profiles for countertops.
  • Consider simple and basic profiles for trim and doors.

Upgrade Lighting

  • Replace outdated lighting throughout the home with modern and tasteful selections. There are tons of options available on the market in different finishes and styles, so it should be easy to find options that fit your design needs.
  • Consider linear decorative fixtures. For example, a linear pendant light above a kitchen island or linear wall scones in a bathroom.
  • Select a neutral daylight colour temperature and not something that is too yellow or too white as it can affect the overall mood of the space and make it feel more dated.

Open Floor Plan

  • Open floor plans have become more popular among homeowners. This type of floor plan allows the space to feel more light and airy and achieves a modern aesthetic.
  • Open floor plans also allow for good flow and movement throughout the home.

Neutral Colour Scheme

  • Select colours that are timeless and cohesive.
  • Choose neutral tones on a grander scale and pops of colours for accent walls and accessories.
  • Combine neutral tones with wood, glass, or metal to enhance colours and add elements of interest.

Incorporate Glass

  • Glass adds a sense of airiness to a space and makes the home feel more open.
  • It’s great for light distribution throughout the home.
  • Consider glass railings for interior staircases.
  • Consider glass partitions throughout.

Remove Popcorn Ceiling

  • Remove outdated popcorn ceiling from your home and opt for flat drywall.
  • Dustless systems and updated technology make it easy for homeowners to remove popcorn ceilings from their homes while still living on-site.
  • Flat ceilings also allow for beams and other structural details to become the showcase.

Don’t Forget About The Staircase

  • Stairs play an important role in the overall design aesthetic of your home. If you are renovating your home and going for a modern aesthetic, then make sure to update the design of the stairs.
  • Consider glass or metal accents in addition to wooden treads.
  • Consider a simple profile for picktes and railings.
