GlassWise Inc. is an architectural glass company that provides clients with interior and exterior glass solutions. They specialize in shower glass enclosures, glass railings, and custom mirrors. I have been working with Raffi Nalbandian, the owner of GlassWise Inc., for many years and I had the opportunity to discuss shower glass maintenance tips with him.
Keeping your shower glass pristine doesn’t have to be a daunting task. Follow these simple tips to maintain a sparkling and clear shower enclosure for your home.
Maintaining a Regular Cleaning Routine
Make it a habit to wipe down your shower glass after each use. A squeegee or a microfiber cloth can effectively remove water droplets and prevent soap scum buildup. Encourage others in your household to get into this habit as well.
Products
Avoid the use of abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can scratch the glass surface. Instead, you should opt for gentle, non-abrasive cleaners to preserve the clarity of the glass. We recommend using Diamon-Fusion® coating. This is a product that is made for glass shower doors and is much more than just a sealant. This multi-purpose product acts as a shield, preventing stains, corrosion, and etching. It’s a protective barrier that keeps the glass surfaces sparkling clean.
If your area has hard water, invest in a water softener or use distilled water for cleaning. Hard water stains can be stubborn, so preventing them to begin with is key. Bar soaps can also contribute to the build-up of soap scum on glass surfaces because they contain talc. If you can, try sticking to liquid soaps in the shower. As previously mentioned, we would highly recommend using a microfiber cloth to clean the surface of the glass and avoid unnecessary scratches.
Ventilation
Ensure proper ventilation in your bathroom to reduce humidity. Moisture can contribute to mold and mildew growth, which can be challenging to remove from shower glass.
If you have windows in your bathroom, try to open them daily after each use, even for a short time, and ensure that the exhaust fan is working properly and in good condition.
Silicone Seal Maintenance
Check and maintain the silicone seals around your shower door regularly. Damaged or deteriorating seals can lead to water leakage and promote mold growth. Have the seal repaired when you notice it is deteriorating to prevent further damage to your shower glass and bathroom.
If you have a sliding glass door, then regularly cleaning the track is very important in maintaining a tight seal. This also ensures the proper functionality of the sliding door hardware.
